Masahiro Ouchi

Masahiro Ouchi is the founder and director of the TaoZen™ International Association. He is also the founder and director of Healing Tao Center of New York and Universal Healing Tao Japan. He is also one of Universal Healing Tao’s original Senior Instructors.

His spiritual journey originated with a childhood experience at a 600 year old Zen temple in Japan. Since then he has practiced Zen Meditation, Shaolin Temple Kempo, Japanese Archery, Esoteric Shintoism, Kundalini Yoga, Prana Yoga, Tantric Yoga, Taoist Meditation, Qigong, Taichi and other healing methods.


He studied several Yoga traditions and had various spiritual experiences while traveling in India in 1972-73. He is an instructor of Prana Yoga. He studied esoteric Kundalini Yoga and meditation under the legendary spiritual teacher and scientific scholar, Dr. Hiroshi Moyoyama in Tokyo for many years. He also studied Noguchi Taiso under Mr. Michizo Noguchi. In addition, Masahiro has studied Transactional Analysis, Gestalt Therapy, Primal Scream Therapy and Feldenkrais.

When he moved to New York in 1980, Masahiro met the world-renowned Taoist Master Mantak Chia and began studying with him. At that time, Mantak Chia was teaching only a small class in Chinatown and had not yet published his first book. Masahiro was chosen as a Teacher of the Year by him in 1985 and later became one of the first senior instructors of Healing Tao. He helped with the naming of Healing Tao, Healing Love and other methods developed with Master Chia.

He is also one of the original U.S. students of Li Jun Feng, the Wushu teacher of Jet Li and the founder of Shen Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong.

Masahiro has been teaching Taichi, Qigong and meditation for over 30 years. He has developed the TaoZen™ Life Practice which integrates Tao, Zen and Yoga wisdom with current psychology, science and philosophy. TaoZen™ Life Practice is a simple and accessible daily practice that can transform our mind, body and sprit and our society now. His courses are some of the most popular offerings at the famous holistic center, the New York Open Center. He has also taught at New York University, Queens College, Exhale Spa and Still Mind Zendo in New York. He started traveling and teaching during last few years in Asia, Oceania, Europe, Central America and Africa. He has published books on TaoZen meditation and Self Chi Nei Tsang in Japanese.

He owns a marketing company and produced many award-winning television commercials and films of sports and cultural events in Japan and the US. He now lives in both New York and Tokyo, and has committed to share the great traditional wisdoms and to be involved in the evolution of consciousness.
